The Egghead Series

Here is the Egghead Series! I am very proud of this body of work, not least because two of the stories have won international awards with the Extensive Reading Foundation. At the moment, the series consists of three stories about a group of characters in a small town in the south of England. Many of the same characters appear in all three stories. I wanted Egghead the Movie, The Drum, and Overnight Success to be inter related so that if readers like one story, they can read another and find out more.

My love of reading started in this way. I would read a story that was part of a series and then pick up another, stories like 'The Secret Seven' or 'The Famous Five'. In linguistic parlance this habit of sticking with the same characters and settings and reading stories that are connected is called, 'Narrow Reading.' However, even though the term seems to give it a negative connotation, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this reading habit. Narrow reading is rewarding in its own right. It can also lay the foundations for a lifelong reading habit. How many students have I met over the years who started their reading journey with Harry Potter, for example?

I hope that some readers, after reading Egghead the Movie, will want to find out more about characters like Emma and Nathan and will therefore read on. This is my small and modest contribution to narrow reading.

I have a couple of new stories bubbling around in my head for the Egghead series, so even though the idea of a trilogy appeals to me, the series might be extended in the future and become a quintet :)
