Boloroo's Next Adventure

Updated: 5 days ago

I’m working on a new story at the moment. It’s a sequel to the story, Boloro

I

I'm currently working on a new graded reader. It’s a sequel to the story, Boloroo’s Big Question. The first book, as you might know, is about a Mongolian girl who lives in Italy with her parents. She is a curious girl who is always asking questions. Her biggest question is about happiness. She asks people in her life how she can find happiness. Each person she asks gives her a different answer.

The story is full of questions, but when writing Boloroo I had a question of my own. Could a story for young readers also introduce some of the enduring questions that philosophers have asked about happiness over the centuries? Through the story could I foster curiosity and discussion about what happiness is made of?

Well now, I am embarking on the sequel where Boloroo will encounter other ideas about the ingredients of happiness. I am proud to say that on this part of her journey I will have a co-author on board with me. Her name is, Nyamtaivan Odongerel (NT for short). NT is an educator in her home country, Mongolia and her input will be fundamental when writing Boloroo’s Next Adventure. She brings not only knowledge and insight to the project but also warmth, generosity and a deep understanding of her culture. Her ideas and enthusiasm are helping me to shape the story in a meaningful way.

As we write this story, it brings back many memories of the time I spent in Mongolia in 2023. In a whirlwind tour of the country, I visited 8 schools in seven days and was greeted everywhere with kindness. Many of them had read Egghead, and Boloroo’s Big Question and they had many questions of their own.

Here are some photos that capture this special moment in my life.
