Although the story was written 200 years ago, it has a modern feel to it. The story even had a subtitle, A Novel without a hero and I think that it is here that Thackeray already tells us what his agenda is - to write something different.
Adapting Vanity Fair was my first and only experience of grading a story at C1 level. I had a lot of words to play with.
This was a new story to me. The other stories I have adapted were all tales that I knew well.
